vector lovers / mixtapes & cellmates / dr blueMonday, September 3

Well, its been party-central at Paper-Fight since the new Vector Lovers album came out. Make sure you go out and buy this sucker. There's tons more variation than on the last, self-titled album.. there's even some vocals! (shock-horror). And plenty of the trademark blissful textures and plink-plonk noises.

Also, an awesome track from Mixtapes & Cellmates (think Postal Service / Dntel), and an absolutely massive dub track that has come out of nowhere and blown heads all around.

Enjoy!

old school sunday mixtape #1Sunday, July 29

Here's the first paper-fight summer sunday mixtape! I've put together some old-school mid/late 90s electronica, mostly british stuff.

British electronica went through some fascinating iterations in the 90s, from the early 1990s post-rave ambient house (VERY under-represented here, but see the ORB track) to the 1994-1995 rich layered psychadelic-samplefests (FSOL - Among Myselves). As the mid 90s carried on, we saw electronica mix with british indie, headed by the Chemical Brothers, Fluke, etc. The staggering Surgeon / Mogwai remix is a hightlight of this entire decade. On the dance side, LTJ Bukems Good Looking label was unstoppable, I think the two records here, 'Atlantis' and 'Alpha-7' does its back catalogue from this time some justice, though there was a LOT of output here, and i'm sure everyone has their favourites.

Enjoy!

OLD SCHOOL SUNDAY MIXTAPE #1

Ken Ishii - Endless Season
The Orb - Star 6 & 7,8,9
